Google Maps Gets AI Upgrade

Google will be introducing generative AI into maps. The new query function can be used to find shopping or restaurant recommendations.

The feature will be rolled out in the US. It will take users’ reviews into consideration when giving a recommendation, with 250 million places to go to with 300 million users giving contributions.

The framework, unveiled during Singapore's hosting of the 4th ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting, promotes common principles for trustworthy AI and suggests best practices. Singapore, with its National AI Strategy since 2019, leads in the region's AI readiness, ranking highest in Salesforce’s 2023 Asia Pacific AI Readiness Index. Other ASEAN members like Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Thailand lag behind.
