Microsoft goes all in on Copilot

Microsoft copilot

Copilot

Microsoft launched Bing's AI-powered search engine a year ago, but it has yet to gain significant search market share against Google.

Instead, ChatGPT has become one of the most used services, with over 100 million weekly users.

Microsoft has focused on a broader approach, including new features in Office apps. This new approach will help Microsoft pivot towards Copilot instead of Bing.

This new approach will also foster new services, such as Copilot + as a way of monetization.

Three students, Youssef Nader, Luke Farritor, and Julian Schillinger, won a $700,000 prize from the $1m Vesuvius Challenge for using AI to decipher a 2,000-year-old scroll from Herculaneum, destroyed by Mount Vesuvius in 79AD. Their AI model, leveraging pattern recognition, has unveiled 2,000 Greek characters (5% of the text) discussing music and food, thought to be written by Philodemus, a follower of Epicurus. The technology, praised as a revolution in Greek philosophy, aims to decipher 90% of the four scanned scrolls this year and potentially all 800 discovered in an 18th-century villa library.

Simplify, a startup from the W21 YC cohort, has announced a $3 million seed round to enhance job searching with AI. Co-founded by CEO Michael Yan, Simplify aims to streamline the application process through questionnaires, job scraping, matching, and autofill capabilities, targeting especially those in technical fields. Unlike LinkedIn, Simplify emphasizes privacy and personalization, offering a Chrome extension for easier application. With around 10 remote employees, the company values diversity and is exploring monetization strategies. The funding round was led by Craft Ventures, supported by YC, Hyphen Capital, GFC, and several industry angels.
