OpenAI Lowballs Publishers

AI companies such as OpenAI are in talks with publishers about buying copyright rights. Although it seems like many AI companies are already using publishers’ articles to train their models.

A reason this could happen is that AI companies usually employ web crawlers to search the web, and removing copyright content can be challenging and expensive.

OpenAI was sued by The New York Times and recently by other authors for allegedly spitting out full articles in ChatGPT. [Link]

Together with Apple, they have opened discussions with major publishers to use their articles for training.

OpenAI reportedly offers $1 million to $5 million annually. This is far below what was previously deemed the market rate.

Apple is offering a minimum of $50 million to publishers for multi-year deals.

Google pledged to spend $1 billion with news organizations in 2020, but as they already have Google News, they may have a head start.

OpenAI is set to release the GPT Store next week

The GPT store was originally set to launch in late November ‘23, but was delayed with the ousting of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

The marketplace will allow users to sell their apps built with ChatGPT and make money in a similar fashion to Apple’s app store.

GPTs can be created with ChatGPT’s GPT builder, available with a voice-interactive interface.

This is an effort to expand OpenAI’s ecosystem, becoming the first of its kind to release a store.

The exact release date for the GPT store is not known.

Innovative apps like Hyfe and Kena Health are using AI to track diseases through sound analysis.

Hyfe detects cough patterns, aiding in the diagnosis of conditions like asthma and COVID-19. Kena Health focuses on analyzing voices to identify mental health issues.

These apps represent a growing trend in healthcare, utilizing non-invasive audio monitoring for early detection and management of illnesses.
